1.Tell me about yourself.
I am a very persistent, person who does not take quitting as an option and always try to obtain some positive aspect in everything. I am also a person who “thinks outside the box”; when working on a hands-on project I am always thinking of new ideas as to how I could start the project or make it better. My hobbies revolve around helping others; community involvement and helping people in need is what I enjoy doing. I am an optimistic person and I would like to make people think in a positive way as well. I enjoy making a positive change in people’s lives.
2. Why should I hire you?
I believe that I deserve this position because I have academically demonstrated that I am prepared. I am able to become an effective leader by both coordinating and willing to listen to my co-worker’s ideas, possibly incorporate them into the project. Not only will I be a dedicated worker but also bring my creativity along with my knowledge to create magnificent, and effective structures. I will optimize all of my given resources and if the resources are not provided, I will make sure that the project is a success either way.
3. What is your long-range objective?
I would love to design and create structures that will stand for hundreds of years, and positively impact people's lives. Although I may not be able to cease global problems such as world hunger, global warming, or overpopulation, I would greatly love to be part of the solution. As a Civil Engineer, I will be able to create new housing systems that could help with the overpopulation issue. One of my long range objective is to create such a system or structure where overpopulation is no longer a huge issue.
4. How has your education prepared you for your career?
I have been involved in many projects that have dealt with the engineering field throughout my education. Although not all projects involved Civil Engineering, I have enjoyed the process in making the projects. The projects that I have been the most excited for are those that deal with structural engineering. I have been able to not only gain knowledge about my career through these projects but was also able to obtain experience through them.
5. Are you a team player?
My leadership philosophy is based on the following terms: creativity, communication, determination, and optimism. Communication in my opinion is key in group projects, which is why I try to get my group members involved as much as possible so that the project can be created from the best parts of everyone’s ideas. This not only creates a great, successful, project but also encourages everyone in the group to shared their thoughts. The reason why it encourages people to share is because they know that their ideas will be heard and included in the project.
6. Have you ever had a conflict with a boss or professor? How was it resolved?
I have not not had conflicts with my boss or professor but when and if I do, I will resolve the dispute through means of communication. If there is a problem or difference in opinion, I would like to investigate why we are having an issue. Once we exchange our opinions, we can create a compromise and resolve the dispute.
7. What is your greatest weakness?
A challenge that I face is not being able to fully apply all of my thoughts and inventions effectively to many of my projects. Ideas begin to flow when a project begins and continue to flow through my mind as I begin the project. I then begin to find innovative ways to better the project but this can become overwhelming, especially when deadlines are near. I am able to complete the project assigned but after the deadline passes i still continue to visualize ways to innovate the project, but I am unable to make any more modifications. I am making an effort to overcome my challenge by working through my projects faster so that I am able to test and innovate the project before the deadline arrives and complete a project with all of my great ideas included within it.
8. If I were to ask your professors (or your boss) to describe you, what would they say?
My previous mentors would describe me as the following: optimistic, persistent, compassionate, and dedicated. I am a person who likes challenges and when those challenges become difficult I maintain persistent and dedicated to completing them. Obstacles may interfere with my success at times and may seem as if my goals may not be accomplished but when it comes to that I only look at the positive aspects. I begin to work with what I am able to and figure out any alternatives that may assist me in accomplishing my goal. When it come to people, I am always willing to offer my assistance; in projects, I try to get everyone involved in sharing their great ideas.
9. What qualities do you feel a successful manager should have?
I believe that a successful manager should have the following qualities; great time management, collaborative with the employees, and able to finish their work without someone supervising or commanding them. Having time management can be a difficult task to accomplish but is very helpful because it creates an organized manager which creates efficiency. A manager should not be in absolute control and make every employee do as they say; instead, a manager should involve their employees so that great ideas are shared. Many people seem like computers these days and only act on command. A successful manages should be able to do their own job without being told to do their job.
10. If you had to live your life over again, what one thing would you change?
If I had a second chance in life I would definitely try to be more outgoing and have better communication skills at an early age. If the difficulty of speaking with other people lowered, I would have a larger number of connections. People reach a successful life through connections, which is why it is vital to know many people, as they may one day be of assistance. However, I would need to speak with people of importance or people who are also trying to be successful.
