Disadvantages of being an architect
- Becoming an architect is long and arduous task. It takes five years of school to earn a bachelors degree plus two to four years to earn a masters degree. To get into a reputable architect school is very difficult. It is highly competitive to get in and the requirements are very heavy with science, algebra, trigonometry, and geometry. After school comes three years of being an intern with long working hours and low pay.
- Only the top ten percent of architects make around $100,000 a year. It is very difficult to reach that top ten percent while on the other side the bottom ten percent of architects make about $42,320 a year. This is mostly a starting rate for architects but is considered low compared to other professions like law and medicine that are just as hard to reach.
- There is a ton of pressure on an architect because if something goes wrong with a building all blame is put on them. They work twice as many hours than anyone else for low pay. Having a job on as an architect flows with the economy as well. If the economy is doing bad construction is cut back first and architects are out of work.
